Recently I was given the opportunity to sample a jar of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Standard Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I was under no obligation to post a positive review, and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
I was excited for the opportunity to review Tropical Traditions Gold Label Standard Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. As soon as it arrived, we couldn’t wait to give it a try. I’ve heard some amazing things about the benefits of coconut oil, and I was curious how well it would fit into my life. I already knew a bit of what to expect because back in September, in Saskatchewan, I tried some coconut oil for the first time in place of butter on my toast and was delightfully surprised at how much I liked it… It really sparked an interest for me in what coconut does to fuel our bodies. I began my own research to find out.
Coconut has been known to get a bad reputation in the past for having saturated fat in it, and it is true that coconut oil contains saturated fat. But like there are good and bad cholesterol, there are also good and bad saturated fats. Fats aren’t a straightforward thing when it comes to looking at dietary needs, and they are classified in one of three ways; short chain, long chain, and medium chain, dependant of the number of carbon molecules that they have. Getting this far into digestion is way over my head too, but what you need to know about the type of fat contained in coconut oil is that it contains short and medium chain fats. These types of fats are immediately absorbed and sent to the liver, where they are made available to the body. These types of fats are less likely to promote obesity, as they are not routinely stored by the human body.
About half of the fatty acids in natural coconut are made up of lauric acid, which is converted in the body into monolaurin. Monolaurin is used by the body as an immunity aid, and is a main component in human breast milk (but obviously not a replacement….as if I have to tell you!). The bottom line is that from a nutritional standpoint, coconut is beginning to be given more credit as a useful fuel for the body, and isn’t that what we’re all about? As far as foods go, coconut oil is one that will serve a direct purpose as fuel for your body and immunities. Human beings need proper nutrition to function, and coconut oil can definitely help you get some of the nutrients that your body requires.
When our very own jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil came to the door, we tried the same method that I had tried before, of spreading it on toasted bread, and I was again impressed by the taste, aroma and texture of this product. It serves as an amazing vegan spread for toast that melts just perfectly and provides a unique, tropical picker upper. I knew right away that this was a product I was going to love using.
I’m going to be honest. I finished my toast and I put the lid back on my Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil. I took one long look at this jar and I realized that I was working with something that was foreign to me. I had no idea what to do with this jar of coconut oil, at all. Where do you begin when you’re supposed to start using a new product? Well, luckily for me, the folks at Tropical Traditions have a recipe blog full of amazing recipes for Coconut Oil, so I didn’t have to search around and you don’t either. They have an excellent collection of entree dishes, not to mention soups, salads and sides. If you’re looking for coconut drinks or smoothies, there is no need to even Google them. Tropical Traditions has done it all for you. And I haven’t even mentioned the baking section. I’m always looking to improve my limited skills as a baker and there is no shortage of amazing baked good recipes on the Tropical Traditions Recipe blog, even for those people with special dietary concerns. Each recipe is easy to follow and ordering more is easy with on site information.
And speaking of ordering, if you were planning on ordering some of your own Virgin Coconut Oil to try, you are entitled to a free Coconut Oil Book. In order to receive this book, at check out you select “referred by a friend” and you must enter my user ID, 6941765. At this time, the book will automatically be added to your order. If you need help doing this, or have any other questions about Coconut Oil, you can check out their Customer Service Page for help.
If you’re not quite ready to jump on board and purchase some coconut oil of your own, not to worry. The folks at Tropical Traditions were kind enough to offer to sponsor an awesome giveaway. One of my lucky readers will be receiving a jar of Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil to try just like I did, and all you have to do is…
