When I began writing, my words served only as my outlet; I had no goals, or direction for my writing. Slowly, over time, my intentions have shifted. At some point I decided that, at least once a week- I was going to make an impact, I was going to make a difference. It was right after meeting a young girl who wasn’t receiving proper nutrition. I was told her parents “weren’t aware of it”… as though nutrition was a lifestyle choice and not about providing necessary building blocks that a body needs. It was this which inspired me to start a weekly focus on what food truly is, fuel for our working bodies! Each week, I pick a food that interests me, or that I want to learn to make and then I break that food down into a recipe and share the things that make each food special and nutritious. This practice has positively impacted the way that I run my household, but has helped me to realize how many other Canadian parents are looking for a place to go where they can get the truth about food. So many mothers want to learn and share with one another, and feel welcomed for their interest in changing their food mindset, not judged for their bad decisions prior. It is in offering this service, this space for concerned spouses and parents, especially women to gather, that I feel I make an impact on Canadian Families and their health through mom blogging. And I know that I’m not alone. So many mothers have set out to share their stories and have empowered women who were going through similar struggles, whether in the area of food knowledge or fertility issues. Blogging can make a positive difference in the lives of others on a daily basis. Why else would blogging be so popular?
At the end of the day, blogging can be as impactful as the authour of the blog makes it. Blogging is like anything else; There are people who do it with a purpose. There are people who set out with making big changes in the world that they live in, and those who just stumble onto the opportunity. In both instances it takes dedication, hard work, and a lot of skinned knees before you get it right, but if I’ve learned one thing from working with moms in the past? It’s that when a strong and driven mother, even a mom blogger, puts her mind to something? It gets done, and it gets done well.
I think that mom bloggers can positively impact the health of others in Canada by making a conscious choice to do so and sticking with it. Even when it feels like no one is commenting, your words can be so impactful just in passing! Mom bloggers are in a position of power on the market today, and it is up to each one individually to decide what kind of impression to make and legacy to leave, I’ve decided to make mine one to remember.
